Pelvic Floor Therapy for GI Care

Your pelvic floor muscles sit like a hammock in the bottom of your pelvis. Their primary functions supporting our pelvic organs, including the bladder and bowel, and maintain your continence so you are not leaking. These muscles play a crucial role in our ability to empty our bowels and bladder.

People often think of pelvic floor dysfunction meaning weakness. However, the pelvic floor not working correctly is often associated with tightness of the muscles or a combination of weakness and and tightness coexisting. Pelvic floor dysfunction can be caused or exacerbated by stress or trauma to the pelvic floor area from giving birth, chronic bowel issues and straining, and pelvic related surgery. Tightness and weakness of the pelvic floor can lead to discomfort and disrupt health of your gastrointestinal (GI) system.
